  • Sailing with 7 Seas Whale Watch

We recently had the opportunity to go whale watching with 7 Seas Whale Watch in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
We had a great time and saw some amazing creatures, including humpback whales, fin whales, dolphins, and seals.

We arrived at the dock early in the morning and were greeted by the friendly staff.
We were then given a safety briefing and shown to our seats on the boat.
The boat was large and comfortable, with plenty of room to move around.

Once we were underway, our captain and two marine naturalists, gave us a brief overview of the area and what we might see on our trip.
We then set off for Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, a designated whale sanctuary.

The trip out to the sanctuary was about an hour long.
During this time, we enjoyed the scenery and learned about the different types of whales in the area.
We also saw some dolphins and seals swimming nearby.

Once we reached the sanctuary, we began our whale watching.
We were lucky enough to see several humpback whales, including one that was breaching (jumping out of the water).
We also saw a fin whale, which is the second-largest whale in the world.

In addition to whales, we also saw dolphins and seals.
The dolphins were very playful and swam alongside the boat.
The seals were happily swimming undisturbed by all of the commotion from the ship, dolphins, and whales.

    We had a wonderful time.
We saw some amazing creatures and learned a lot about the marine environment from the two naturalists who were walking about the ship, and talking to the guests.
We would recommend this trip to anyone interested in whales or marine life.

  • Returning to the Same Spot

As landscape photographers, we are always looking for new and exciting places to shoot. But there is something to be said for returning to the same spot periodically to capture the changes in light and environment.

When you return to a spot multiple times, you will begin to notice subtle changes in the landscape that you may have missed before. The angle of the sun can change the way the light hits the land, and the weather can create dramatic changes in the atmosphere. By returning to the same spot, you can capture these changes over time and create a series of images that tells a story.

In addition, returning to the same spot can help you to develop a deeper understanding of the landscape. As you become more familiar with the area, you will be able to identify the best spots to shoot and the best times of day to capture the light. This knowledge will help you to create more stunning and memorable images.

If you are looking to improve your landscape photography, I encourage you to find a spot that you love and return to it periodically. You may be surprised at what you discover.

Here are a few tips for returning to the same spot periodically:

    • Choose a spot that you love. This could be a place that you have always wanted to shoot, or it could be a place that you have already shot and loved.
    • Take notes. When you first visit the spot, take notes on the time of day, the weather, and the light. This will help you to remember the conditions when you return.
    • Return at the same time of day. This will help you to capture the same light conditions.
    • Be patient. It may take some time before you start to see changes in the landscape. But be patient and keep returning, and you will eventually be rewarded with some stunning images.

I hope these tips help you to capture the beauty of the changing light and environment.

  • Photography during the Springtime

    Moore State Park

Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth, and it’s also a great time for landscape and nature photography. The weather is mild, the flowers are in bloom, and the trees are starting to bud. Here are some tips for taking great springtime landscape photos:

    Get out early
The best time to photograph landscapes is often in the early morning or late afternoon when the light is soft and the shadows are long. If you can, try to get to your location before the sun rises or sets to capture the golden hour.

    Look for interesting compositions
Springtime is a great time to find interesting compositions in nature. Look for patterns, textures, and colors to make your photos stand out. For example, you could photograph a field of wildflowers, a stream cascading over rocks, or a tree silhouetted against the sky.

    Use a tripod
A tripod is essential for landscape photography, as it will help you to keep your camera steady and prevent blur. When using a tripod, make sure to level it before you shoot. This will help to ensure that your photos are sharp and evenly framed.

    Shoot in manual mode
Manual mode gives you more control over your camera settings, and it’s especially important for landscape photography. In manual mode, you can adjust the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to get the perfect exposure.

    Experiment with different settings
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different settings when you’re shooting landscape photos. Try using different apertures, shutter speeds, and ISOs to see how they affect your photos. You may be surprised at the results!

    Edit your photos
Once you’ve taken some great springtime landscape photos, don’t forget to edit them! There are many different ways to edit photos, but a basic adjustment to the contrast and saturation can really make your photos pop.

    Share your photos
Once you’re happy with your photos, share them with the world! You can post them on social media, share them with friends and family, or even enter them into photography contests.

Springtime is a great time to take landscape and nature photos. With these tips, you can capture the beauty of the season and create stunning images that you’ll cherish for years to come.

  • Discovering the Beauty of Nature through Photography

Photography has the power to capture moments and preserve memories, but for me, it goes beyond that. It allows me to capture the beauty and essence of nature in its raw form. As a passionate nature and landscape photographer, I have had the opportunity to travel to some beautiful and remote places, capturing nature’s breathtaking views. In this post, I want to share with you my love for nature and landscape photography, and why it is an art form that is close to my heart.

    The Power of Nature:
Nature is an endless source of inspiration, and every time I step into the great outdoors, I am in awe of its beauty. From the vastness of the oceans to the towering peaks of the mountains, nature has a way of making you feel small, yet connected to something much larger than yourself. The more I travel and explore, the more I realize just how magnificent and diverse our planet is.

Capturing the Beauty of Nature through Landscape Photography:
Landscape photography allows me to capture these breathtaking moments and share them with others. Whether it’s the soft light of dawn, the warm glow of sunset, or the vastness of a star-filled sky, landscape photography helps me to convey the power and beauty of nature. The art form also teaches patience, as one must often wait for the right light, weather, or conditions to capture the perfect shot.

    The Importance of Technique:
Of course, landscape photography is not just about capturing beautiful scenery. It also involves a certain level of technical skill. Understanding the elements of composition, lighting, and exposure is essential to capturing the essence of nature and producing stunning images. It’s not just about pointing and shooting, but rather, it’s about using your camera and your creative vision to tell a story and evoke emotions.

    Conclusion:
In conclusion, nature and landscape photography is an art form that I am deeply passionate about. It allows me to escape the distractions of modern life and connect with the natural world meaningfully. Whether I’m hiking to a remote location, waiting for the perfect light, or editing my images, the process is always a reminder of just how incredible our planet is and the beauty that surrounds us. I hope my love for nature and landscape photography inspires others to go out and discover the beauty of the great outdoors.

  • More fun

At this point, I’m just trying to see how long I can keep the Garden Studio going.
How long can I keep attacking birds and squirrels to a pumpkin full of bird seeds?
More importantly, how can I keep shaking things up to keep them fresh?
